University of Kyrenia is the first university of Northern Cyprus specializing on maritime studies was established in 2013 in Kyrenia. There are now 12 faculties, 3 vocational schools, 3 graduate schools and an academy, in total 58 programs.
Girne is the most vibrant city in North Cyprus, its located close to the harbor and hence surrounded by water. The city has one of the most amazing bars, clubs, and restaurants in the whole of North Cyprus.
Girne has a population of over 21 000 people and one of the best climate conditions in summer. People get to do a lot of water sports in Girne and boat tours cost between 20 to 40 euros per person, however, cheaper as a group.
The scenery is great for relaxation and often students visit the city center just to walk around. Kyrenia is the most favorable city for tourists and hence its flooded with impressive hotels and shops. The primary or most used language in the city is English.
The city is also situated close to a historic castle which attracts a number of tourists from all over the place. Compared to other cities life is faster in Kyrenia, however, accommodation is also a bit expensive.
Girne has the best transport system within North Cyprus, buses and taxis are always readily available. In winter the city is less lively and usually less populated. Just like other cities in Cyprus there are a number of Casinos and betting houses around the city which are hunting grounds for student jobs.
University of Kyrenia (UoK) is one of the fastest growing universities in Cyprus and one of the most prominent educational institutions in the region, providing education both in Turkish and English languages with students over 30 countries. UoK Campus is located by the seaside at a safe location near the city center.
University of Kyrenia is recognized by the Higher Education Council of Turkey (YOK) and approved by the TRNC’s Ministry of National Education and also received its accreditation from the Higher Education Planning, Evaluation Accreditation and Coordination Council (YODAK).
University of Kyrenia has a total of 63 programs with 14 faculties, 2 Academy, 4 vocational schools, 6 Postgraduate programs and 2 Doctoral programs. The University also has a Continuing Education Centre, Distance Learning Centre, School of Aviation, 60+ Refreshment University and other schools providing education to the public.
The University places great importance on research and scientific projects. As part of this, the University provides funding for attendance at conferences and scientific meetings to help its staff to publish in prestigious scientific journals, in order to promote academic development. The University is currently funding considerable number of significant research projects. UoK is in academic cooperation with national and international universities.

The university has the required infrastructure used for marine programs : Bridge Stimulator, Engine Room Stimulator, Liquid Cargo Handling Simulation, GMDSS, ECDIS, Arpa Radar, Port and Pie Constructional Simulation and three research and training vessels (TEAL and Jr. TEAL 1-2) at the New Port Kyrenia
Founded in 2013, Girne Üniversitesi (University of Kyrenia) is a non-profit private higher education institution located in the rural setting of the medium-sized town of Kyrenia (population range of 10,000-49,999 inhabitants), Northern Cyprus. Officially accredited and/or recognized by the Yüksekögretim Planlama, Denetleme, Akreditasyon ve Koordinasyon Kurulu (Higher Education Planning, Evaluation, Accreditation and Coordination Council, North Cyprus), Girne Üniversitesi (UoK) is a very small (uniRank enrollment range: 1,000-1,999 students) coeducational higher education institution. Girne Üniversitesi (UoK) offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees such as pre-bachelor degrees (i.e. certificates, diplomas, associate or foundation degrees), bachelor degrees, master degrees in several areas of study.
